IBM's New Business Language, EGL

2009-02-18, Past Meetings, Web Master,

Companies that have invested in the System i platform are challenged with modernizing their existing core business applications. Most transformation projects, utilizing newer languages such as Java and .Net, have missed their business objectives, primarily because these technologies fail to reuse and interoperate with existing RPG and COBOL code.

To address these issues, IBM has created Enterprise Generation Language (EGL). This session will show how EGL can provide you with a strategic advantage by allowing your business to create more modern systems while leveraging existing code assets through re-use. This session includes a demonstration of calling/debugging an iSeries RPG program from EGL and case studies.

Topics:

  • Overview of IBM's new business language, Enterprise Generation Language (EGL).
  • How to reduce the gap between legacy and modern applications by providing a simplified method of interfacing to RPG and COBOL code from EGL.
  • Understand how the talent of your existing staff can easily add EGL development as a cornerstone of your iSeries modernization efforts(typically in about 30 days).
